Students will develop, produce, and deliver unique video and audio projects for television, film, and commercial broadcasts.
Grade 9: Introduction to Radio & Television Broadcasting
- Foundational Knowledge: Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of core concepts in radio & television broadcasting, including:
- Photography: Basic principles, DSLR camera operation, image editing
- Filmmaking: Short-form fiction & non-fiction production, screenwriting, non-linear editing software fundamentals
- Audio Production: Sound design principles, practical application in video projects
Grade 10: Mastering Foundational Skills
- Camera Techniques: In-depth exploration of camera settings for exposure, color, and file formats for creative control in photography & videography.
- Visual Storytelling: Students will craft meaningful narratives using individual photographs, manipulating light, color, and composition.
- Broadcast Journalism: Analyze contemporary media systems, develop journalistic reporting skills, and select newsworthy content.
- Audio Production: Design and implement sound design elements for diverse video projects.
Grade 11: Advanced Production Techniques
- Production Mastery: Refine skills in directing, producing, lighting, camera operation, and non-linear editing applied to fiction & non-fiction projects.
- Narrative Filmmaking: Produce public service announcements, documentaries, exploring various genres and styles.
- Broadcast Journalism Immersion: Participate in rotations through the television studio and control room, gain hands-on experience with equipment. Produce episodes of "Taconic Thunder News," mastering script formatting and news rundowns.
Grade 12: Senior Capstone & Specialization
- Long-Term Projects: Apply acquired skills and knowledge to independent and community-based projects, including potential senior projects and freelance work.
- Advanced Photography: Enhance technical ability with camera settings and digital editing software (Lightroom, Photoshop). Develop a personal photography portfolio showcasing creative vision.
- Television Production Specialization: Develop and pitch television pilots, gaining insights into the industry and creating proof-of-concept materials.
- Audiovisual Storytelling Exploration: Experiment with advanced techniques in directing and producing audio-visual content for various audiences.
